Northern lights chase and photography

I follow the weather and aurora forecasts and we drive to wherever the sky is clearest. There is no fixed finishing time; we stay out for as long as the night is worth it. I also photograph you professionally with the northern lights.

Husky sledding

Purebred Siberian huskies on a family farm. After a short briefing the reins are yours: you drive your own team of dogs about 4 kilometres through the snowy forest. Afterwards we visit the kennels, spend time with the huskies and warm up with a hot drink.

• Duration: about 2.5 hours at the farm, 45 minutes from Rovaniemi
• Season: November – April; the dogs are off on Wednesdays and Sundays
• Included: driving briefing, winter overalls and boots, hot drink, transfer
• Children: under 2 cannot take part, under 16 do not drive and ride as passengers in the sled

Reindeer farm

A family that has raised reindeer since at least the 1800s, on a lakeshore 15 kilometres from the city. Today they look after more than 250 reindeer. You meet the herders, feed the reindeer by hand and head into the forest on a reindeer sleigh.

• Duration: about 2 hours, about 2.5 km by sleigh
• Season: November – April
• Included: farm visit, reindeer sleigh ride, transfer
• Children: under 15s join with their families

Snowmobile safari

We ride forest tracks between snow-bent pines and out onto a frozen lake. The feeling of freedom starts the moment the forest opens up. The pace is relaxed for first-timers; two people share one machine, and small children ride in a heated sleigh.

• Duration: about 3 hours in total, about 1 hour of riding
• Season: December – March
• Included: winter clothing and helmet, hot drink, transfer
• Group: up to 8 people per safari

Ice fishing

On a frozen lake close to the city we drill through the ice with an auger and fish the way locals do. Finns say that catching fish is not the point, it is a bonus. Hot drinks by the fire make it the calmest moment of the day.

• Season: once the lakes have frozen safely, usually December – March
• Included: equipment, a fire, hot drinks, transfer
• Children: very well suited to children

East Lapland day: Korouoma and Ruka Coaster

In the morning the frozen waterfalls of the Korouoma canyon, in the afternoon the Ruka Coaster gliding down a snowy slope, and on the way back the Auttiköngas waterfall. The walk is about 5 km: short, but with steep descents and climbs, and slippery in winter; we take it without hurrying.

• Duration: a full day, from early morning until evening
• Season: December – March (the Ruka Coaster opens in early December)
• Included: transport all day, Ruka Coaster ticket, a break by the fire
• Children: on the Coaster, children under 8 and under 135 cm ride with an adult
